Aizawl FC goes down fighting against Bengaluru FC

Bengaluru FC registered their second win in as many games by defeating Aizawl FC 1 – 0 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Aizawl today. A 27th minute header by the Kenya born English defender Curtis Osano was enough to seal 3 points for the champions of the 2014 I League in a game where Aizawl FC was the better side amongst the two.

In the first ever I League game held in the state of Mizoram, Aizawl FC who were clad in their red and white home kit made four changes to their squad that lost to the reigning champions Mohun Bagan with Ricky Lallawmwma, Lalramchullova, Bikatea Lalbiakhlua and David Lalrinmuana making their way in to the starting XI. Bengaluru FC made a solitary change to their starting XI with Udanta Singh coming in to the squad in place of the Mizoram-born midfielder Malsawmzuala.

Although the home side were the better of the two teams, it was Bengaluru FC who scored the goal in the 27th minute of the game against the run of play. Udanta Singh was fouled by Chullova on the flanks and the resulting free-kick was taken by Keegan Pereira. The former Reading and AFC Wimbledon centre back got to the end of the free-kick and perfectly placed the ball in to the back of the net using his head.

Although the home side dominated the game with more possession and provided little space for the visitors, they were unable to create enough chances for finding the equaliser. Bengaluru FC on the other side, were happy to defend deep and consolidate their lead. The game ended 1 – 0 to the visitors.
